This week the Navy tested it’s newfangled Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System, EMALS for short. The system uses a linear induction motor in place of current steam catapults to propel aircraft to the speed required for takeoff. Or, you know, to chuck a hunk of metal with wheels off the deck. Whatever.

This is true. They should make up with it by adding some cool space-y whirring noises when it launches, purely for effect. The high-pitched tone it has when the system is running now isn’t doing it for me.
